Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (otherwise known as STEM) is becoming an increasingly important skill.
You’ll be studying STEM subjects at school, and it’s something we also take seriously within Air Cadets.
But unlike at school, we apply STEM through military logistics. We already do a lot that counts as STEM: radio and radar, piston engine propulsion, rocketry, airmanship knowledge, history of flight, and air navigation.
Cyber awareness and the flying and gliding aviation training packages also count towards STEM.
Additionally, we do lots of fun hands-on STEM-related activities, like building robots and drones using mechanical electronic and electrical engineering, as well as programming.
It’s not just about hands-on skills, either. The Air Cadets runs regular residential STEM camps that also develop leadership, team building and communication skills.
These experiences will prepare you for the chance to apply should you wish for the highly regarded Qualified Aerospace Instructors Course, which is open by competitive selection to senior cadets.
Our STEM activities will help bring your GCSE learning to life in a practical and tangible way.
You may not have an interest in a career in the military, but we hope we can sow a love of STEM which may just result in an exciting future career in the aerospace industry, engineering, cyber, cypher and more!
